What did we cover?

Sierra Club policy experts gave us a quick rundown about the Inflation Reduction Act, the largest ever climate, jobs, and justice legislation signed by President Biden in 2022. While Trump is trying to repeal the law to pay for more tax cuts for billionaires, a significant number of congressional Republicans support the IRA because of the investment and job growth they've seen in their districts. This means there is a strong chance of protecting these clean energy policies if we apply enough pressure on our Members of Congress.Read more about the Inflation Reduction Act here.

What actions did we take?

Action 1: We made calls to our Congressional Representatives. We heard from hundreds of you that calling was much easier than you thought it would be, and only took 1-2 minutes! Congressional staffers keep a record of how many calls they receive about a given issue, so these really add up. If you weren't able to yesterday, call today! Dial 855-980-2279 to be connected with your representative.

Here's a sample script you can use. Feel free to make it your own:

"My name is ________ and I'm your constituent in [City, State]. I support the Inflation Reduction Act's clean energy and climate programs and want you to do everything you can to stop efforts to repeal them. Protecting the IRA is important to me because ________. Thank you!"

Action 2: We posted on our Representative's social media pages. You can let them know that you're a constituent and support the IRA's 400,000 clean energy jobs and $422 billion in clean energy investments.

Here are the instructions and a sample post. We encourage you to put it in your own words:

"Rep [name], I would really like to see you do everything you can to stop efforts to repeal climate and clean energy programs in the Inflation Reduction Act. As your constituent in [City, State], I urge you to protect people in our community over corporate polluters. We need you to fight for us!"
